Our company was established in 2011 by Martin Wright and Peter Fraenkel MBE – the inventor of Gravitricity. Peter was the inventor and Technical Director of Marine Current Turbines, which deployed the world’s most successful tidal turbine in Northern Ireland. Martin is chairman of the UK Renewable Energy Association.

Martin has a background in entrepreneurial company development, venture capital and oil and gas. Today he is Chairman of the UK Renewable Energy Association and of Mojo Maritime Ltd.

Peter was the inventor and technical director of Marine Current Turbines, which deployed the world’s most successful tidal turbine. In 2013 Peter received an MBE for services to Marine Energy.

Charlie Blair

Managing Director

Formerly Head of Marine Energy in the Carbon Trust’s Innovation Team, Charlie is an experienced commercial leader, with 15 years’ experience in clean energy technology innovation.

Juliet Davenport

Board Advisor

Climate scientist, renewable pioneer, businesswoman, environmental entrepreneur. Juliet founded the UK’s first 100 percent renewable electricity supplier, Good Energy, in 2000.

Robin holds 15 years of experience driving business growth in the energy transition and sustainability sectors. This experience builds on a previous role as a solicitor practising corporate and commercial law.

Simon is a chartered civil engineer with 40 years’ experience in delivering infrastructure projects in UK and overseas. Simon was formerly Chief Executive of Crossrail and Director of Infrastructure for London 2012.

Chris is a mechanical engineer with over nine years’ experience in renewable project development. He has successfully delivered numerous consented renewable power projects to financial close.

Douglas Hitchcock

Project Engineer

Douglas is a mechanical engineer specialised in innovative technology development in the oil and gas industry. Previously, he was involved in the design and testing of disruptive near-market technology.

Frances Tierney

Engineering Programme Manager

Frances had overall responsibility for the build-out of the 250kW Concept Demo and now coordinates all Gravitricity’s engineering work packages. She previously worked in the wave energy industry.

Gavin Edwards

Senior Mechanical Engineer

For nearly ten years Gavin has specialised in the design, analysis, and management of large-scale bespoke offshore handling and lifting projects, from concept through to commissioning.

Jill Macpherson

Senior Test and Simulation Engineer

Jill is an experienced test engineer with over nine years of experience testing and simulating prototype vehicles and renewable energy transmissions.

Julie Le Négaret

Mechanical Engineer

Julie graduated in Mechanical Engineering and specialised in integrated design from the University of Technology of Compiègne (France). Julie worked previously within aerospace design teams.

Khalid Abdulla

Senior Systems & Optimisation Engineer

Khalid is a Chartered Engineer with 8 years of experience working on the analysis and design of tidal-steam turbines and wave energy converters, and a PhD in the operational optimisation of battery energy storage systems.

Miles Franklin

Lead Engineer

Miles is a chartered mechanical engineer with seven years’ experience in new technology innovation, including novel borehole drilling machines in West Africa and new product development at Dyson.

Niall Moffat

Director of Finance

A chartered accountant with over ten years in practice (including four years with Ernst & Young), Niall has spent the last 15 years in commercial and strategic roles within industry.

Nigel Voaden

Nigel has 15 years’ experience in the mining sector as a geologist and project manager, predominantly focused on successfully managing large, complex programs in remote Africa.

Richard is a chartered engineer with over ten years of experience. He supports the engineering team as Chief Technical Advisor.

Business Development Manager

A geologist with experience in the electricity transmission sector, Ruth also has a background in consultancy and business analysis. She is responsible for the strategic management of business development activities for Gravitricity.

Hydrogen and Thermal Storage Lead

Sally is a geologist with seven years of experience working in the oil and gas industry. Most recently, she graduated from Heriot-Watt University where she studied an MSc in Subsurface Energy Systems focussing on gas storage and geothermal energy.

Simon Farnan

Public Relations Manager

Simon is an experienced comms professional, having headed up the sales, PR and social media strategy for a major sporting charity that donated over £2.4m to good causes. With an MSc in IT, he also has experience of leading company website re-builds from the customer point of view.

Steffi is a chartered engineer with many years of experience working on conventional and pumped storage hydro, and the development and grid integration of new renewable generation technologies.
